Rather This, Then

A new work by Jermaine Spivey and Spenser Theberge
Rather This, Then is based on an ongoing multidisciplinary series exploring identity and perception, which challenges the traditional role of performer and audience, and reimagines how performances are viewed. Partners on and offstage, Spivey and Theberge improvise, calling on their wealth of shared history to anticipate and support each other’s spontaneous decisions. Their work is highly physical and highly human, calling on body, voice, and visual elements to reveal truths about each other. It’s privacy made public, tenderly voyeuristic, and the result is an opportunity for the audience to see something of their own selves represented in another.
